Making Progress

It’s hard to believe that it is already mid-March!

All the students who were ready to start primary school have now been sponsored! This is very exciting.  Victor was the last of the children to receive sponsorship, and Benard whose sponsor was unable to continue supporting him found a new sponsor.

We have now posted all the profiles for children who will be ready to start grade one in the next year.  There are twelve and we hope we find sponsorship for all of them.

Our fundraiser is coming together, Tria Fine Catering will provide dinner while Ten Times Bigger will provide live music.  Our next step is expanding upon Silent Auction items.  If you or any businesses you know of are interested in donating it would be greatly appreciated.  Businesses can use the donation as a tax deductible expense given that they are promoting their business.  The fundraiser is June 26 at the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay, BC. Attached is the poster.

With all progress there are set back and this month we were informed that we were not approved for charitable status.  We wish to receive this status so that all donors may receive tax deductible receipts.  The reasons that charitable status was denied were given to us and we will slowly work towards fixing these areas, hopefully in time for next tax year.  Many of the reasons were essentially around wording.  We will be looking for a pro-Bono lawyer to help us, so if you or anyone you know is interested please contact us.

I wish all of you the best and will update you next month!
